The Grand Opening for the ICE DISH San Francisco Field Office & Detention Center was held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 7-10pm. ICE DISH Director Tanner White, Chief of Staff Alanna Haight, HSI Director Will D. Port, and elite agents Ray Jin, Eugene Hicks, and Juana Wrights were joined by legal superhero endorsers Captain America and Batgirl, as they welcomed the evening's guests. Visitors were invited to participate in a variety of activities organized exclusively for the occasion, including agent-led tours of the facilities, family-friendly activities, special screenings of ICE DISH's new video, "Introducing ICE DISH," and more.
Located inside Galería de la Raza in San Francisco, CA, the regional headquarters for ICE DISH was the first of its kind to open its doors to the public. The facility was available for viewing during regular business hours and personal tours led by local agents were conducted during official ICE DISH office hours on selected weekend dates after the Grand Opening. Through the tours, Grand Opening event, and other associated Community Outreach operations, the public was provided diverse opportunities in which they were able to contribute and further engage with the agency.
The ICE DISH San Francisco Field Office & Detention Center went on to be featured in Apuntes Journal, Art Practical, Daily Serving, Emergent Art Space, Paperlinks, and Body Impolitic. The Grand Opening was selected by the editors at SF Weekly and Flavorpill as a "pick of the weekend" leading up to the date. The event was also included in El Tecolote, a local newspaper serving San Francisco since 1970. The ICE DISH San Francisco Field Office and Detention Center was made possible with the generous support of Galería de la Raza's AIR Program and ReGen Fund, and ICE DISH stakeholders.
